Call for Proposals
The Hemingway Society Welcomes
Preliminary Proposals for Its 2022 Conference

To date we have received two preliminary proposals for consideration:

Genova, Italy           San Sebastian & Bilbao, Spain

The executive board solicits input from the membership on the proposals and will select a finalist in the fall semester.

You can submit your feedback to info@hemingwaysociety.org

As we excitedly prepare for next summer's conference in Sheridan, Wyoming, and Cooke City, Montana, it is already time to start looking ahead to 2022. Where will we go? And who will direct our next international conference? The executive board welcomes preliminary proposals from the Society membership.

Please submit to Hemingway Society President Carl Eby (ebycp@appstate.edu) a proposal that includes the following information:

○     Note: Conferences typically take place over the summer months; your proposed dates should take climate, holidays, and major events (such as the FIFA World Cup) into consideration.

○     Note: Past conferences have typically included an opening and closing event, a Hemingway "birthday" luncheon (when the conference falls on July 21), a PEN/Hemingway fundraiser, an open mic or trivia event, sightseeing tours, boat rides, and private tours of local Hemingway-related landmarks. Have a look at past conference programs for inspiration, available at www.hemingwaysociety.org/past-conferences.

While there are no specific length or formatting requirements for proposals, readers will appreciate visually appealing, well-organized, and concise yet detailed proposals of no more than ten pages. Images of potential sites for programming, lodging, and sightseeing are encouraged but not required.

Proposals will be due June 15, 2020 and will be distributed to the membership before the 2020 conference, where they will be discussed at the membership meeting. Society members not attending the conference will have the opportunity to communicate their feedback via email. The executive board will consider feedback by the membership and will select the finalists who will present formal proposals, including a detailed budget and academic program, to the board via Zoom meeting early in the fall semester.

We look forward to continuing our long tradition of amazing conference destinations!
